Tomorrow there is a winter storm warning. It seems that most of us can probably make it back to Telluride before it starts snowing (7-8pm). I spoke with the coach running the race and he will let me know if they decide to cancel, however at this point in time we are still a go for the race.

Girls will start at 5pm and the race for boys will be 5:20ish.

We will say a 4:15 hard time to be at the race venue (Ouray Park), your kiddo ready to warm up. Bus will leave the school at 3pm (please arrive by 2:45). Parents can park cars at the hot springs in Ouray.

What should you kiddo have?

  • Uniform (unless you emailed me to bring it)
  • Plenty of water, snacks
  • Rain coat
  • Warm clothing race warm up (expect to get wet!)
  • Warm dry clothing for the drive home (crucial)
  • A white shirt – If you child decides that they want to wear a shirt under their uniform they can. First choice would be a white shirt followed by a black shirt. No logos. Long sleeve or short is fine. Athletes cannot wear a jacket or anything like that over their uniform during the race
  • A mask – be prepared to run with it!

**** Please have your child more than prepared for tomorrow’s weather! Remember that if they get any sort of (covid symptoms), which is pretty much all cold symptoms they will have to skip practice the rest of the week. That all being said, I feel that tomorrow is great weather to run a race in. It will be nice and cool, which are the conditions our kids excel in!

Pre race habits

  • Start encouraging your child to hydrate today. Tomorrow they should never chug water, instead, sips all day
  • Good night’s rest
  • Have a good sized, healthy lunch tomorrow
  • Don't eat within an 45-60 min of the race
  • Be active today
  • Leave plenty of time to get to the venue tomorrow. Running late adds a lot of stress.

Week 3

Hi Team!

Wow! Can't believe that we are in week 3 already!

Last week we did a baseline mile time trial which will help us greatly at the end of the season to see improvements. The kids did a great job leaving it out there and already we had kids who beat their time from last season!

Race - Ouray Sept 8th

We will be having our first race of the season in Ouray on Sept 8th. Please note that I DO NOT have all the details yet and therefore do not know if we will be limited on the number of athletes that can attend the race. Please fill out the form below as if your child will be attending, but please know that in the end, it is possible that not all athletes will be able to attend. Regardless of whether or not your child can attend the race, please fill out the form below.

5pm - Girls Race

5:30pm - Boys Race

Report time for all at venue - 4pm

Week 3's training plans

  • As we start getting farther into the season it is important for those athletes who want to be competitive this season to start working out on their none contact practice days with me. Please encourage your kiddos to get out there and do something on their off days if they hope to do well in the races this season.

Week 2 XC!

Good morning Afternoon!

Practice is from 330 – 430 and we will meet in front of the TMHS Cafeteria (in front of the new butterfly painting).

If you arrive late due to transportation after school, DO NOT WORRY. If we are not in front of the building please send your child to the back field to meet us. I will reassess after this week on practice time based on the time people arrive.

Please remember

  • Show up before 330 today if you have paperwork to turn into your front office (6th TIS, 7th & 8th – TMS office)
  • Athletes need to show up ready to run (running clothes, running shoes, WATER!)
  • Athletes need to show up with their mask on
  • I need to take their temperature before they are allowed to practice
  • On the drive her please review the COVID rules with them, they will hear it again from me
  • Please remember we are trying to avoid athletes entering the school

As promised, here is a training plan for the entirety of the week. Athletes are not expected to complete the training on the days there is no team practice, but those that want to be competitive and perhaps join the HS team in a few years should consider. My training plans are progressive, so by the end of the season students will be running longer and harder. We are going to start very easy the first two weeks.

**This week we will be doing a 1 mile time trial. This is simply to create a baseline for each athlete at the start of the season. We will do one more, at the end of the season.

Zoom Meeting Notes

Hi all,

I appreciate you taking the time today! Attached you will find the ppt if you could not attend the meeting. If you would like to get the recording of the meeting please email me and I will send it (currently uploading).

Just another reiteration that if your child has any COVID like symptoms to keep them home. If we even get one covid scare that could shut us down for the week, month or the entire season. Cross Country and golf are the two sports that are leading the state in athletes. If we all do a good job, they will allow other sports to take place. Let’s be role models !

If you think 330 will be an issue to getting to the school for practice please let me know !

Please email me with questions, comments and/or concerns!

Introduction Email - More Details to Follow!

Good afternoon!

Thank you! We appreciate all of you for signing up for the team and being patient with us as we travel through uncharted waters! Below is the information we have currently about the season. We are still waiting for more specific instructions from CHSAA that we should be getting by the end of the week.

First Day of practice -  Dependent on what group your child will be assigned too but will be either Monday Aug 17 or Tuesday Aug 18th

Zoom meeting – Please put Thursday August 13th 5:30pm in your calendars. This will be our introduction meeting for the season and is extremely important that you try to be present for this. I will record it and send it out to those that cannot make this meeting. I will also send out the zoom link for this meeting the day of.

Limit on team size – This season we will be limiting the size of our team. This limit has been set at 20 athletes. If you are receiving this email, your child is on the roster. Currently we have two spots left, so if you know anyone who is interested please forward them this link to sign up.

https://forms.gle/QKiENmNYFcGoEFVr5

This also being said, if your child is no longer interested in being on the XC team, please email ASAP so that their spot can be opened up to other athletes.

Yet Another Survey: Please complete this 20 second survey (https://forms.gle/GUYbMnAh3DVQVe7g8). If this survey is not completed by Tuesday Aug 11th, I will email or call you to check that you are still interested in the team.

Practice Schedule - The new practice schedule will look like this

330pm athletes meet with masks on

430pm athletes get picked up by parents

  • Mon – Black Group
  • Tues – Maroon Group
  • Wed – Black Group
  • Thur – Maroon Group
  • Fri – No practice, unless there is a competition

Race’s -  Races are currently TBD based on what the state says. We will plan for races, but be prepared for them not to occur or to be limited on how many athletes can join. However, if we are limited on races or no races occur, we will have at least 1 race/time trial here in town.

As always, please let me know if you have any comments, questions and/or concerns !
