Tomorrow is the last volleyball practice for B/C team members. Coach Davis and I are very sad to see these wonderful ladies depart so soon after we got to know them. We sincerely hope to see all these great student-athletes had a great experience working in their first school team sport. Please encourage them to return for next school year and continue touching a volleyball as much as possible between now and then. If you are really looking for development seek out camps and the local club team that is run by the High School Head Coach, Rhea DePagter.

Our multi-level teams season has come to an end as we move into tournaments to wrap up the season. However, tomorrow, Sep 28, we will have a fun short practice 3:30-4:30 and then head for a team dinner to celebrate at Brown Dog!  Hopefully all the girls can come and parents are welcome to join the fun if you like. We should be wrapped up around 6:30-7:00pm at the latest. Kids can be picked up at anytime after 4:30!

Saturday Tournament is an A Team only tournament at the Naturita School. We will meet at the school entrance at 6:30 and depart as soon as all players are on board the mini-bus. 13 players have been selected to represent our A Team! We will play our first game at 9:00 and again immediately following at 10:15. The results of this tournament will determine the 4 league teams that advance to the SJBL Regional Championship the following weekend, Oct. 6. Please bring healthy snacks and money. We will stop at the Clark's Market in Norwood on the way back to get something to eat. We should be back around 1:00pm or shortly thereafter. We are able to make a "down valley" stop at M&M Mercantile. Players are always asked on the bus to call at departure and each major town as we pass through so you have a good idea. If you plan a pick-up down valley, please remember you must be in lot when we arrive. We are unable to wait for parents to arrive at that location. As always, you are more than welcome to take your child home directly from the game if you sign them out with a coach. Only parents can sign a player out. If a grandparent, friends, etc wish to take a player I need an email 24 hours prior to provide approval for that individual to have responsibility for your child.

THIS WEEKS GAMES

Tuesday, Sep 25 @ Norwood. Player bus will leave immediately after early release at 2:00. Game begins at 4:00. A and B teams (all players will attend). 

NO GAME, Thursday, Sep 27 - it was moved to Tuesday

Saturday, Sep 29 tournament @ Nucla HS. Tri tournament between Telluride, Nucla, and Dolores. A Team only will play. We only have school transportation for 13 players, therefore any players wanting to come cheer the team on can coordinate for a carpool if you like! We would LOVE to see you all there! More updates on departure time and play times will follow later in the week as the tournament details are completed by the host school. 

The following week will be preparations for the SJBL Regionals for the top 4 seed teams in the league. Look for updates as we solidify our records next weekend to determine teams, location, and times for this tournament. 

Parent Meeting Recap

1. Paperwork due: TMHS Permission to Participate, Physical Exam and Parent Permit, $50 athletic fee (must be all turned in to Kim Spaulding before first game - Aug 23, 4:00, THS gym against Dove Creek)

2. Practice daily 3:30-5:30 TIS gym, 1st 1/2 hour dedicated to new player skill devleopment.

3. Games on Tuesday/Thursday. All games start at 4:00 pm

4. Season lasts from Aug 6 - October 6. Season calendar handed out and info available in the Calendar Tab above.

5. We field an A, B, and C team roster. Tryouts Friday, August 10 3:30-6:30 we may finish early. All players make the team, tryouts to determine placeent. Be prepared for your child to move between squads throughout the season.

6. Gear: Athletes need all black shorts (any style) no logos if possible and no piping. Black knee pads and volleyball court shoes are optional. 

7. Expect your child to do lots of running and conditioning. This builds teamwork and stamina for long tournament days and tough matches. 

8. All communication to parents will be done through this website. Please register for an account and alerts so you know when new information is put up on the website.

9. Conflict/Issues with coaching staff. Please directly address the coaches if you or your player has a concern. Encourage student athletes to come to coaches to discuss their concerns to help develop their self advocacy. TMS has a 24-hour cool down request if the issue is contentious. 

10. Need 3 parent volunteers for each home game. 1 scorekeeper and 2 line judges. Please contact coaches to sign up. You will be able to watch your child play.

11. Athletic Bus Policy: Students must ride bus to games/tournaments. Parents may drive athletes home if they attend the game after formally signing out with a coach. District authorizes courtesy bus stops in Rico, Ophir, and Placerville. Parents MUST be at the drop location upon bus arrival. We CANNOT wait, even a minute or two. Students may not be left at the courtesy drop location under any circumstances, even with another team parent. Players may only go home with another teammates family if a written notificiation has been received 24 hours in advance.

MS Girls Volleyball will begin Aug 6-7, 2018, 3:30-5:30 with a 6th Grade/New Player Clinic.

Regular practice for all players begins Aug 8, 2018, 3:30-5:30 daily Monday-Friday

Tryouts are Aug 10, 2018, 3:30-6:30pm. If you cannot attend the tryouts please do not worry this does not preclude an athlete interested in volleyball from playing. We understand this is a before school start to the season and prior vacation plans may have been made. If you want to play, come out and join us at any point up until the end of August. We will not be able to accept new players after Sep 1, as they will already have missed 2 games of the season. Special circumstances will always be considered.

The season lasts until Oct 7, 2018
