Colorado Springs School has forfeit its first-round game against Telluride in the Class 2A girls soccer state tournament.

The school made the decision on Monday, notifying the CHSAA office that it could not play due to scheduled AP testing that would not enable them to field a full team to play the game, which was scheduled for May 9. The combination of lengthy travel to Telluride, created due to the large geographic spread in 2A, was also a factor.

"It was a very disappointing decision to have to make," Colorado Springs School athletic director Rick Risk wrote in an email to CHSAA.

As a result, Telluride advances to the quarterfinals of the 2A playoffs, where it will face No. 3 Front Range Christian on Friday.

"Both athletic directors worked on finding a solution, however a successful outcome could not be reached," said CHSAA assistant commissioner Bud Ozzello, who oversees soccer.
