Updates and Information
Athletic Fee payment system-
All athletic fee payments will now be handled online with registration and due at the time of registration.
Senior Banners-
Photos for senior banners were taken and we should be receiving the proof soon before sending them off to get made. Any senior student athletes who were not available to make the original photo date will have an opportunity to get it done during school picture day on September 18.
Transportation Update-
Our transportation department has done an outstanding job this summer working to find solutions that benefit our student athletes and coaches. They were able to rework their routes to cut down the afternoon to two bus routes. This has opened up a school bus and an available telluride express bus to transport our teams via school bus. This will not completely eliminate the need for coaches to drive but will help tremendously. We are very thankful for all efforts of the transportation department to continue to solve this problem.
Spring field snow removal-
New equipment has been purchased that is better equipped for turf field snow removal that will help avoid future damage and potentially make it possible for more regular snow removal. The hope is that this way we can maintain snow removal throughout the winter to avoid the damage, safety issues, and spring field readiness. We will monitor during the winter and I will continue to send updates in winter newsletters as needed.
Fall Student-Athlete participation-
Although our High School enrollment is lower this year, our Fall HS Athletic participation is up 16% this year. It is great to see the interest in participating in school athletics!! 36% of our Middle and High School students are involved in our school athletic programs this Fall
Winter MS and HS Basketball Schedules-
Are posted and can be found on www.Tellurideathletics.com. Some changes may occur so check often.
Monthly Message
Telluride Athletic Department definition of success:
If every student can answer “yes” to the following questions at the end of their season-
- Did I have fun?
- Did I feel connected to my team and my teammates?
- Did I become a better person, not just a better athlete?
Goal vs Purpose-
Although goals and purpose are related concepts they mean different things. We want to make sure to clearly separate them and know each on our athletic teams:
Goal- Plan, prepare and play to win
Purpose- To develop character skills, create a sense of belonging, and make memories and relationships that last a lifetime.
All of our Fall coaches have been working on their Transformational purpose statement and working them into their coaching practice.
We are gearing up for lots of competition in the coming months and look forward to seeing our Miners!
